Day 565

Day 565 November 27th

10th Anniversary of Marvel Minimates
Museum Display Part 4
Control Art

Next up in this display is some of the control art that is used in designing the Minimates.  On the bottom of the big display case is an assortment of the design sheets actual pencils by the artists involved with designing them.  Some of these sheets are mine while others are on loan from Don Brosius.  I really like seeing these sheets, especially some of the really detailed ones like the Brood Wolverine or the warp portal from the newest Silver Surfer.  On the small table beside the big case is a hardcover book that I made specifically for this show.  In it is a collection of the finalized control art, fully rendered and coloured, which have been released by DST in promoting new waves as well as some older ones that I got through the interviews I conducted last year on the blog.  One of the neatest parts of the control art in this display, (in my opinion anyways), is the combination of Alpha Flight Minimates with their corresponding Minimates.  I managed to get the control art for the 8 Minimates that were part of the 2 Alpha Flight box sets and since I am giving away Minimates from those sets to visitors of the display I thought this would be an awesome addition to the show!

Day 564

Day 564 November 26th

10th Anniversary of Marvel Minimates
Museum Display Part 3
Minimates!

Of course the main part of this display is the Minimates!  In the cases on the wall and the bottle level of the display case represents all of the waves of Marvel Minimates from 1-52 (minus 16 of course since it is the fabled lost wave that never made it), as well as all convention exclusives, Toys R Us waves and other retailer exclusives.  I had debated on including the multiples of army builders I have collected but opted to leave them out as the display is already a lot to take in.  The Galactus and Sentinel Minimates: MAX statues are also in the big display case, which add I nice touch to it.  I really do enjoy those statues and sometimes wish they had released the others planned, especially since I am a big Wolverine fan!  On the top row of the display case I have the Darktide movie set – the box, DVD case and the 4 Minimates, while the movie plays on the TV beside the display.  This came right around the slim year for Minimates where their continuation was questionable.  Also on that top shelf there is a hand painted prototype, some test shots (or first shots), a few test shot error pieces and an art mock up pieces leant to the display by Don Brosius.  These are some neat peaks behind the curtain and into the makings of these awesome toys!

Day 563

Day 563 November 25th

10th Anniversary of Marvel Minimates
Museum Display Part 2
Posters!

I absolutely love seeing Minimates in actual drawn art which is one of the reasons I love these posters so much!  I don’t have a display setup figured out to display them out at home so it is great to have them hanging in the museum and I can enjoy them in their full splendor a bit more.  I can’t say that these are all of the Marvel Minimates posters out there as I know of a very early one from when they were first announced and there was also a very cool Spider Man 3 movie version that hung at the Diamond Select Toys booth during cons the year those Minimates came out but I never have managed to get either of those.  I did stumble across one I didn’t know existed shortly before this show went up and that is the smaller one with the heroes fighting Galactus.  This art was used in an issue of Toyfair, in which they had a visual guide to the Marvel Minimates.  This issue came out shortly after I started collecting these and I really liked that artwork, so imagine my surprise to find this piece, which had been included in a poster magazine released by Toyfair’s parent magazine Wizard!  All in all these are some fun extras to add to the main collection!
