Day 316

Day 316 November 12th

Logan

The first minimate of the third wave of Marvel minimates has to be one of my favourites, both in minimates and as a character all around, Logan.  In this more civilian look for Wolverine they have really done a great job nailing the characters look, as this was his standard non costume look for a long time.  While the hands and claws can’t really compare to how some of the newer designs look I still really dig this minimate!

Day 315

Day 315 November 11th

Friday with my best friend!

Robot

This post is dedicated to my best friend, my wife!  She started me on this collection, helped me to see that it was ok not to have all the minimates being made and being able to share my little ideas and projects with her has really taken this to a much higher level.  One of the things I love the most is how she will really like a minimate and claim it for herself.  This first happened with this minimate, whom she has named Robot, and I am all too happy to get spares of any one that she enjoys to add to her collection!

Day 314

Day 314 November 10th

Carnage

This is one of the most uniquely designed minimates made, even after almost 10 years it still ahs a great visual appeal to it.  Part of Carnages look in the comics is the living, moving symbiote all over his body; it literally just flows over and all around him.  The all body tampos of this minimate really go all out to show this as he has tampos on all parts of the body, even the top of the head!  This great amount of detail really makes this minimate stand out in the huge collection of Marvel minimates we have now.  While people have requested and mentioned DST doing an updated release of Carnage I am a bit hesitant to join that request line.  I am not sure that a newer one would be able to match the awesomeness that they captured with this one!

Day 313

Day 313 November 9th

Venom with tongue

This is my other favorite Venom minimate!  It is an interesting bit of history with this minimate and why I class it as a completely separate minimate for this wave.  With the release of this wave in the specialty stores wave and in the single packs he did not have the tongue.  Yet when they released these waves in Canadian Wal-mart stores it included both the tongue and non tongue versions.  Art Asylum allowed you to request the tongued head from them, for those US-based collectors.  Any of the re-releases since then had both heads.  I always treated them as separate minimates and it wasn’t until I got the variant black costumed Spider-man/Venom 2-pack that I displayed Venom without a tongue.  It is too bad that they didn’t do something like this for the Gene Simmons KISS minimate!

Day 312

Day 312 November 8th

Venom

This is another great, yet simple in design, minimate.  Venom has become such an iconic Spider-man character that it was pretty obvious that he had to be in this wave.  One of the changes in the design made for this minimate was the tiny little clawed hands instead of the regular minimate style hand.  It’s a great nod to the overall design of the character in the comics right there!  His huge tooth-filled mouth is very bold and eye catching as well.  Out of all the Venom minimates we have gotten since this one I still think this is one of my favourites, well this one and one other…

Day 311

Day 311 November 7th

Classic Green Goblin

Seeing how wave two was a Spider-man theme there was no way that DST could not make one of Spideys main foes, the diabolical Green Goblin.  Despite the more simple designs of the early minimates some of my favourite minimates came form the earlier waves, and this Green Goblin is one of them!  The elf boots are the clincher for me, a great little nod to the history of the character right there!

Day 310

Day 310 November 6th

Sundays with my Son

The Ghsotbusters are going after the Stay Puft Marshmallow man!  Look how red he turns as they are zapping him!  BOOM!!  He exploded into marshmallow bits everywhere!

Day 309

Day 309 November 5th

Black costume Spider-man

This is the variant for the second wave of Marvel minimates and for the longest time it was one of the most sought after Spider-man minimates ever!  Prices on the secondary market were absolutely insane for this 2-pack, even for just this one singly.  This was easily one of the last minimates that I got in my back collecting of the first waves when I started collecting, in fact I had I think the next three waves as well as various exclusives before I got this one!

Day 308

Day 308 November 4th

Spider-man

Spider-man has long been one of the figure head characters of the minimate packages and he made his minimate debut back in wave 2!  While it seems odd to compare who was in wave one and the bigger names of wave two and even wave three but they were all released at the same time so it all works out in that manner.  This is still considered to be one of the best looking Spidey minimates released yet!

Day 307

Day 307 November 3rd

Battle damaged Spider-man

The phenomenon that is the battle damaged action figures hit minimates early on with the battle damaged Spidey in wave 2!  I still hold this as one of my fave Spidey minimates, the battle damaged look has always had an appeal to me going back to my days in the Toy Biz lines of Marvel toys.  The level of detail on this minimate is purely impressive, tattered flaps of material from his torn costume, scratches, blood and his gritted teeth all add up to one great looking minimate!

Day 306

Day 306 November 2nd

Peter Parker/Spider-man

A return to the retro waves with the next few posts starts today with a look back to wave 2!  First stop on the flashback machine is the half and half Peter Parker/Spider-man minimate.  This odd design invokes for me fond memories of how they used to draw Pete’s spider sense when he was not in costume and half his face would look like Spideys mask.  While some look at this minimate and scoff I rather enjoy its unique look and quirky idea.

Day 305

 Day 305 November 1st

Minimate display at the Humboldt and District Museum

I was asked if I would be interested in adding a display of toys to a new exhibit in my local museum.  I jumped at the chance as I figured it would be some good exposure for the Miniamtes brand!  The set up took awhile and I thought I had gotten pictures of all parts of it but now see that I missed the Pirate Raiders setup and Ghostbusters setup so I will have to go back and visit my minimates and get some more pics!
