Day 468

Day 468 April 12th

Custom: Snake Eyes

I do love getting some custom Minimates made from some of the super talented folks that have honed their skills with these small scale toys and Les – Squall is just one of those people.  His work with detail and sculpting is amazing and he has produced some amazing pieces of work.  Check out his stuff here: Squallworks and see for yourself.  When I had the chance to get some stuff from him I had to go with 2 of my childhood favourites that I would love to see in Minimate form.  Snake Eyes looks amazing; I cannot use enough words or the right ones to convey that so the pictures will have to speak for me!

Day 467

Day 467 April 11th

X-Men First Class: Havok

This was one of the examples of changes made to the history of the character but really I am not too picky about having the movie match the comics perfectly.  I liked how they had made Havoks character in the movie, very similar in attitude to the comics version and DST captured the look perfectly!

Day 466

Day 466 April 10th

X-Men First Class: Beast

I was glad to see them include Beast in the movie as it helps connect this to the previous movies timeline and history, if that was indeed what they had wanted.  DST did a great job with the Minimate, the look and colours look great and I love how they used the hands and feet from the Wolf man Minimate to give a more animalistic look to them.

Day 465

Day 465 April 9th

X-Men First Class: Mystique

This was a very different Mystique from the previous movies or the comics.  A more reserved and withdrawn Mystique as opposed to her more harsh and villainous usual portrayal.  I thought it was very well done and a great way to show character progression.  DST did a great job getting the look for this Minimate and I am thinking of ways to use her outside of jus the standard display.

Day 463

Day 463 April 7th

X-Men First Class: Magneto

One of the parts I really liked with the First Class movie was how it explored the friendship of Xavier and Magneto in the early days.  I found this to be a great take on the pair.  DST did a great job with the Minimate, getting the look dead on.  Magneto also came with his signature helmet which is a bit of a spoiler to those who hadn’t seen the movie but as you can see in my pictures someone else is holding the helmet…

Day 462

Day 462 April 6th

X-Men First Class: Azazel

The comics basis for this character is one from a time where I was not reading X-Men comics at all but he was introduced as Nightcrawlers father.  An interesting idea and the look is kind of neat.  No links in the movie are laid out as such but I like the unique look and feel that DST did good capturing that look with the Minimate.

Day 461

Day 461 April 5th

X-Men First Class: Emma Frost

Here we have another classic X-Men villain making the transition to the big screen.  While I am not a huge fan of the character in the comics I felt they did a decent job with her in the movie.  Her white jumpsuit from the movie seems a bit more wearable then her comics costumes and DST did a good job bringing it to life in the Minimate.

Day 460

Day 460 April 4th

X-Men First Class: Sebastian Shaw

A classic X-Men villain choice for a movie, Sebastian Shaw was a great addition to this film.  DST did a great job capturing the look of the character even though I find the sculpted slip over suit piece to add a bit of bulk to the Minimate.  Overall this is a nice looking Minimate.

Day 459

Day 459 April 3rd

X-Men First Class: Charles Xavier

I really was not sure what to expect out this film as I am a fairly firm X-Men fan but am not a huge stickler that the movies have to reflect the comics 100%.  I like to go into the movies with an open mind and I find I enjoy the majority of the comic book movies made.  This Minimate does a great job capturing the look of a young Charles Xavier just getting started on his journey into human/mutant history.  DST did a nice job getting the detailed flight suits translated into Minimate form!

Day 458

Day 458 April 2nd

Spectral Ray Stantz

Last but certainly not least in the spectral Ghostbusters box set is Ray Stantz.  True to the source DST nails the look dead on and I love the effect of the translucent parts in these.

Day 457

Day 457 April 1st

Sundays with my Son

I really like how Diamond Select Toys made the fire phoenix base for this minimate.  It looks really cool!  I really do like the whole line for the Marvel vs Capcom minimates.
