Day 228

Day 228 August 16th

Boogieman

When they had announced that the Boogieman was part of the line up for the Real Ghostbusters minimates I was very curious to see how they were going to pull off his very unique look. The design work put into making this minimate is amazing; the head is huge and has a great big nose and the mullet hair!! Fantastic!! It is work like this that shows just how far minimates have come from their basic block bodies and I personally don’t mind when it is needed to make the look of a specific character like this one!

Day 227

Day 227 August 15th

Egyptian Ghost

The sheer amount of sculpting detail on the parts of the Egyptian Ghost shows exactly how awesome minimates can be, even with some bulk added to them! As an even cool bonus DST even gave us the burglars’ masked face underneath!!

Day 226 August 14th

Sundays with my Son

This is my M.A.X. (mobile action extreme) law enforcement collection. I like the set up.

Day 225

Day 225 August 13th

Sam Haim

One of the things I am most excited to see with this line is the unusual looks that many of the ghosts have and how they translate into minimate form. While the big baddy spirit of Halloween Sam Haim is pretty tame compared to some of the others they still do an excellent job with it! I huge flowing cloak is an amazing piece and it really gets the wheels turning as to what other kind of character I can create/modify to use such a wicked piece. Under the cloak the body is completely translucent orange with the tampo of a rib cage on the chest block. The pumpkin/jack o lantern headpiece is another solid seller for this one and I imagine it is only a matter of time before a customizer uses it in making the classic headless horseman!

Day 224

Day 224 August 12th

Terror Dog

While I love me the Ghostbusters movies and am overjoyed with the minimates based off of them, that excitement barely can hold a candle to how I feel to be getting minimates based off of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon! This show was a Saturday morning staple of my childhood, right up there with the Bugs Bunny and Tweety show, Smurfs, Spider-man and his Amazing Friends, Snorks, Mr. T and the list can go on and on. I learned how to program our VCRs very early on so I could record the early shows in case I didn’t get up for them even! While this Terror Dog is just a basic repaint from the movie versions I like the blues and translucent combo, it looks really cool! It seems to have a cartoonier feel to it this way.

Day 223

Day 223 August 11th

Age of Apocalypse Weapon X

In this reality Logan never took the Wolverine name, going by Weapon X instead. The first major character difference outside the name is very evident in the fact that he only has one hand! The writers did a great job with this idea, he lost it in a fight with Cyclops which also cost Cyc an eye, and to sate the rabid fan boys clamoring about the healing factor they said that he hastily had the metal cap put on it before it would have grown back. I love that DST included extra hands so he could go back to the look before that happened as well as the piece that reveals that while his hand was disintegrated by Cycs blast his claws were retracted and in one issue he pops them through the metal cap! I loved that scene in the comics!! Some people have complained about the large hairpiece that X has but I find it very suiting as the artist on the book at the time, one Adam Kubert, drew his hair huge like that. Adams run on the Wolverine comics is still one of my favourite visual runs ever, the man drew some awesome stuff during that stint!

Day 222

Day 222 August 10th

Age of Apocalypse Jean Grey

One of the first major differences with this timeline is the fact that Jean is with Logan since Cyclops is on Apocalypse’s side. This makes perfect sense since it has been well established that if Scott wasn’t the one for her she would choose Logan. I love the character redesign in the books and I feel DST has captured it perfectly, right down to that wicked facial tattoo!

Day 221

Day 221 August 9th

Age of Apocalypse Beast

The brilliant scientist that is Hank McCoy in the regular Marvel universe is a twisted yet brilliant madman in the Age of Apocalypse universe. His darker attitude is reflected in a dark more rough appearance which this minimate mostly captures. I wish they had used a different hand selection however, I detest these ‘claws’ and have everytime they have been used!

Day 220

Day 220 August 8th

Age of Apocalypse Apocalypse

In this alternate universe Apocalypse seizes the opportunity to overpower basically the world and with Charles Xavier dead Magneto creates the X-Men to try and overthrow Apocalypse. This minimate does great justice to the source material right down to the larger boots Apocalypse had! I love the hand pieces and the face looks fantastic! He seems to look a lot more menacing than his regular universe counterpart.

Day 219

Day 219 August 7th

Sundays with my Son

This is the Death of Captain America. I read the comic and wanted to do a picture of it. What could be better than a super hero funeral when they fly to the arctic alone, but some share a jet. Deadpool gets there and rides his motorbike to the funeral spot.

Day 218

Day 218 August 6th

KISS Love Gun boxed set

This is one of the very few grails I still had in my minimates collection and it was filled very recently! I had seen this set in Zellers of all places a few times early in my minimate collecting but never picked it up for some reason. When I finally decided that I really did enjoy the box design, with the minimate style fans and such, they were no longer around here and went for way more than I wanted to pay on ebay. I stumbled across a post offering one up for trade on the Multiverse and had to take a stab that it was still available even though the post had been up for a few hours already. Luckily for me it was still available and I could lay to rest another sought after piece of my minimate collection!

Day 217

Day 217 August 5th

Elektra black

Looking back at this I am like the theme of this wave but now a days there would be some heavy complaints online about the line up lol. I like the choice of this costume as the variant of the first wave and she was one of the hardest ones for me to find. When I started collecting minimates no one locally sold them so it was all online shopping for me and no places I found still had this one. I did finally manage to score one in a trade with an overseas forum member, the first time I had ever made a deal with anyone in Spain! Again this is a great looking minimate, the black costume works very well in the simple block body form.
